The Tori no Ichi Festival is an annual festival has been celebrated at shrines and temples since the Edo period, and it is held in November on the "days of the rooster" that are designated by the lunar calendar. Visitors come to wish for good fortune and to purchase “Kumade” (bamboo rakes). The Tori no Ichi festival at Otori Shrine is one of the three major Tori no Ichi festivals of Kanto.

While the majority of Kumade sold were traditional Kumade, there were a few that were very unique.
