The Tori no Ichi Festival is an annual festival has been celebrated at shrines and temples since the Edo period, and it is held in November on the "days of the rooster" that are designated by the lunar calendar. Visitors come to wish for good fortune and to purchase “Kumade” (bamboo rakes). The Tori no Ichi festival at Okunitama Jinja Shrine is one of the three major Tori no Ichi festivals of Kanto.

There are many food stalls along the path to the shrine selling typical Japanese festival fare.
The Kumade are hung up all together, which is a gorgeous spectacle to see, but it also makes it easier for customers to choose which one they'd like to purchase. When a Kumade is purchased, the salespeople clap their hands and wooden blocks and sing a song. (video below)
