I've been living in Japan for close to a decade, and have tried many vegan restaurants and cafes throughout the years. Below are my absolute favorite vegan (or vegan friendly) places to get lunch in Tokyo.
1.Senjou Gyoza (Vegan Friendly)
A tiny Taiwanese restaurant famous for their colorful dumplings that can be ordered either with meat or vegan. The fillings vary depending on the day, and are not listed on the menu so you will need to ask for details, but every time I've had them they've been so delicious. You can really taste the influence of the owner's Taiwanese background in both the dumplings and the sauce served with it. This is an extremely small and narrow restaurant and can only accomodate three tables of two so do not come in a group unless you get takeout.
2. Kohrinbou (Vegan)
A Japanese teishoku-style restaurant that's conveniently located on the second floor of Nakano Broadway! The owner is from Taiwan and is very passionate about veganism and living a healthy lifestyle. Everything in the restaurant it made by hand and has the perfect balance of different flavors and textures. I recommend getting the katsu lunch set (pictured).
3. Komeda Is (Vegan)
Famous chain cafe Komeda Coffee opened an all vegan location in Ginza with 100% plant-based versions of all of the popular items on their regular menu.
4. Universal Bakes (Vegan)
A popular vegan bakery with multiple locations around Tokyo serving both sweet and savory pastries, perfect for a light lunch with a cup of coffee!
5. Ming Teng HAO HAO (Vegan)
Conveniently located in Shimokitazawa, this vegan Hong Kong-style restaurant serves both sweet and savory dishes. The savory lunch menu which includes dishes like "Vegan Minced Pork Rice" and "Vegan Mapo Tofu Rice" is available until 3PM and then after that they serve dessert only! The dessert menu includes a variation of different puddings, as well as pineapple cake.
