Nishitokyo's Tanashi Jinja 田無神社

Tanashi Shrine is nestled in the western part of Tokyo, and hosts events and festivals all throughout the year. Its history dates back to the 13th century, and there are dragons sculptures across the grounds representing the 5 dragon gods.

In front of the entrance to the shrine is a "Chinowa" 茅の輪 grass wheel which is for purifying the worshipers.


The "chozu" (hand-washing basin) at the entrance of the temple sometimes has flowers in it depending on what's in bloom. This photo was taken during hydrangea season!

"Tai Mikuji" which are fish-shaped talismans with a fortune slip inside of them that are available at the temple along with ema and other temple souvenirs.

One of the festivals at Tanashi Shrine is the Tanabata Teru Teru Tunnel, which takes place in July. Click here for more information on this festival!
