Immerse yourself in Japanese history, architecture, and nature at this gorgeous open-air museum in Kawasaki city! From Shinjuku station, its just a simple 22 (or so) minute ride to Mukogaoka-Yuen Station, and then a 12 minute walk to the museum grounds. This museum has over 20 traditional historical houses that were relocated from different regions around Japan.

As you can see on this map, the museum is separated into different regions that you can walk through freely.
On the grounds of the museum they have a soba restaurant, and a cafe. I went to the soba restaurant, but I didn't get a chance to go to the cafe because there was a large line (it was a Sunday).
The soba restaurant is inside of this gorgeous traditional Japanese folk house!
I got the cold "sansai" soba which is a mixture of mushrooms and vegetables that are foraged traditionally! You sit down on tatami and there are a few tables you can sit at that have a lovely view.

Near the end of the route there is a traditional indigo dye studio! It was closed the day that I went but you can check out their website for more information here:
