A Cafe Run by Monks: Bozu 'n Coffee

Updated: Apr 15

For both a traditional and unique experience, head on over to Bozu 'n Coffee to try their selection of coffee, tea, and sweets with a view of a beautiful Japanese garden. "Bozu" means monk in Japanese, and the cafe is actually run by monks.

**They have very irregular hours and since it's become so popular you need to make a reservation in advance. They post the days that they open for the month and the link for reservations on their instagram so make sure to follow them and have their post notifications on. **

A view of the garden from the "engawa" ( wooden flooring wrapping around the outside of the building that you can sit on).

For the drinks and sweets there are a handful of options to choose from and this time I chose cold matcha and dorayaki with cream.

The engawa is quite large so you may be able to grab a seat for the best view of the garden.

Since it's not open often it gets very busy on the days that it is. I recommend going early!

There is also the option to sit out on this balcony which looks over the entrance of the cafe onto the street.

This is the entrance to the grounds and building of the cafe which can be a little confusing but there is usually a little sign out front with "Bozu 'n Cafe" written on it.
