1. Miyabian
Miyabian has been selling high-quality and eye-catching wagashi out of Nakameguro since 2004. Each wagashi reflects the motifs and traditions of the most current season, with a rotating selection that changes over the months.
A small but popular spot in Setgaya selling seasonal wagashi. There are a few seats inside where you can enjoy the wagashi with coffee or tea, or you can take it to go. Since it's pretty popular you may have to wait in line to get in!
A relaxing spot for wagashi that you can enjoy with matcha in the shop. The taiyaki here is much smaller than traditional taiyaki and the outside is soft, not crispy. They sell plain taiyaki (pictured in the middle) or taiyaki decorated with something to reflect the current season or upcoming holiday which at the time of taking this photo was Valentine's Day. It's a little pricier than other places (1200 JPY for the mini taiyaki and matcha) but if you're in the mood for some matcha and sweets it will hit the spot.
4. Toraya
Toraya has been selling confectionery since the 16th century, and has multiple locations all over Japan, and even in Paris! The company was founded in Kyoto by Kurokawa Enchu, and has remained in the Kurokawa family for the entirety of it's history. Each location is different, so if you would like to sit and enjoy wagashi in the shop make sure to check before you go as some are take out only.
5. Sobei Awaya
Awaya Sobei creates both traditional and modern wagashi that you can purchase from their storefront in Nerima, Tokyo. They sell seasonal wagashi, collaboration wagashi with Sanrio, and their own original wagashi like these adorable cat-themed sweets!
